From and about women who love Jesus and want to share His message through Scripture, everyday inspirations, and relatable stories.

The offer of a one-to-one mentor is one of the most enticing reasons people consider joining a cohort for the leadership development ministry I lead at our local church. I sense a deep desire with emerging leaders for a companion and guide on their spiritual journey. The problem?

Country music was the soundtrack of my teenage years, and no country star at the time was as big as Garth Brooks. His song “Unanswered Prayers” climbed the Billboard country chart all the way to number one in 1991. I can still sing every word.

A young boy was watching his mother make the family’s traditional holiday ham recipe. After noticing his mother slice off both ends of the ham before placing it in the pan, the son asked his mother why she removed part of the ham because it seemed wasteful.

All the eyes at the college party turned and looked at me as M&Ms clattered on the hard floor around my feet and then went shooting off in different directions. I stood mortified trying to piece together what had just happened. As I picked up the remains of the candy and my pride, I realized that in my enthusiasm to tell a cute boy a story, I shoved a handful of M&Ms I had just grabbed into my pocket. A pocket that betrayed me with a huge hole sending M&Ms shooting out the bottom of my shorts and onto the floor.

We asked our team to give us their favorite song of the season and why. Below is a list of folks from the God Hears Her team and their songs. We hope that you will enjoy them as much as we have.

The ladies from the God Hears Her blog have shared some of their family’s personal recipes. These are the ones that are good for family and friends. Feel free to try them yourself, bookmark them for later, or share them with a friend.

The first smile. The first time sleeping through the night. The first tooth. The first word. The first step.  Becoming a new mom more than two decades ago, I anticipated all the firsts. I’d poured over books, joined new moms’ groups, and sought our advice from older moms. While a lot of the tips and suggestions were helpful, I often felt like I was still having to blaze a new trail. Success never came as easy as promised, and our situation presented some distinct challenges.

Christmas transforms our home. Our annual tradition (arguably enjoyed by some members of the family more than others) of replacing our regular, year-round furnishings with Christmas décor helps to usher in the season.
