Joy can be found anywhere! Nehemiah told his people that “the joy of the Lord is your strength” and we can take that to heart too . . . no matter what our circumstances. We’ve put together a playlist of songs that focus on joy, and we hope you’ll give it a listen. Remember, there is strength in the JOY that comes from God, so let these songs bring a smile to your face.

The first speller, one of the younger middle schoolers, was given the word grape. It seemed like the students, teachers, and parents in attendance at the spelling bee all exhaled at once. This was an easy one, a warm-up. Still, I found myself spelling it along in my head with the student, g-r-a-p-e. All the words in the first round felt easy. Then one student was given raisin. Remember it ends in i-n, not e-n, I whispered in my head. . . . Whew, they got it. Nice job.

 I wanted him to love me. But at six my ideas of love were undoubtedly immature. Growing up it’s easy to think about love in simplistic terms. We can equate someone’s affection towards us as a symbol of a deep-seated emotional connection. But sometimes love doesn’t look like what we have come to expect. It’s not always a warm and fuzzy feeling. It takes work. In fact, there’s not one relationship in my life that I can think of that hasn’t required effort. Perhaps unsurprisingly, my most important relationship took more sacrifice than any other. Not on my part.
