Show Notes

  • Jesus as a companion means always having a friend with you. He is real and accessible.

  • Meghan’s Scripture practice: Sitting with Scripture and writing down questions, observations, and even prayer. Think about the purpose each story represents.

  • If you find yourself in a prayer rut, introduce Scripture to help you pray with a new outlook.

  • “The Bible is not mechanical. What we are hearing is a narrative of God’s engagement with people.”

  • The Bible is not meant to be intimidating. It’s meant to be dug into; and it’s an invitation to be romanced by what Jesus wants to teach you.

  • “I think people have a lot of fear of getting it (the Bible) wrong, and this feels like a high- stakes thing to get wrong. Like, ‘What if I get God wrong? What if I get God’s desire wrong?’”

  • The plotline of the entire Bible is summed up in this: “God is remaking the world and bringing all broken things back together.”

  • The Bible is a window, not a mirror. “It’s a means, not an end.” We look through Scripture, not at it. If we treat it like a mirror, we are doomed. If we look at it like a painting, we are missing the point.

  • “Sometimes we feel like we have to be a certain way, look a certain way, or act a certain way to be used by God. But His continual pursuit for our heart shows us that we don’t have to be anything other than exactly what we are.”

  • “The Christian life is not about being right, it is about being love.”
